Longer description

One of the most popular Chinese dishes around the world is Sesame Chicken! This entree is well known for its appearance and sweet taste.

The Chinese diaspora of the early 1950s created a huge influx of Chinese immigrants and chefs to the United States and United Kingdom that needed a cheap, easy way to relate their food to a new market; Sesame Chicken provided this opportunity.

Sesame Chicken is normally prepared with thigh meat from a chicken that is either on or off the bone; this meat is then battered and deep fried. After the meat has been prepared, it is topped with a sweet sauce brown or red in appearance that is derived from a combination of wine, sake, vinegar, corn starch and chicken broth. The final ingredient in the sauce of Sesame Chicken, sugar, is the primary reason why the dish has its famous sweetness. Finally, the entree is topped with toasted or roasted sesame seeds, giving the dish an extra crunch and its popular, easy to remember name.

Common side dishes to serve with Sesame Chicken include white rice and steamed broccoli, which add substance to the dish without attempting to take away flavor or taste.
